A Note From Our Rector | Pentecost Sunday

This past Sunday was simply great! I am deeply proud of our youth, and especially the graduating seniors we celebrated. I want to thank our preacher, Jillian Smith, for a fantastic sermon (that you can
watch here). Thank you to our readers: Winston Summerfield, Julianne Schultz, and Henry Boynton; and our handbell choir who played excellently (
watch here)! And certainly let me not forget the youth leaders who were instrumental in hosting these activities- Kay Lewis, Heidi Guthrie, Margaret Longworth, and Kim Curtis. Such a Sunday as this past one can be a great reminder for all of us of one of the parish’s primary duties- welcoming people into the family of God through baptism, and teaching them to walk in his ways (Proverbs 22:6).
I also want to remind you of Pentecost Sunday coming up this week!
Pentecost is the “birthday of the church,” or rather the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower us to become the church. To remember the tongues of fire burning above the apostles’ heads and in their hearts, remember to wear red. To live out God’s instructions for us to help feed the hungry, bring food for the food drive. Watch the red ladybugs being released at 11am reminding us to go forth out into the world to work for God’s Kingdom and justice, and stay for lunch as we will be having food and ice cream trucks. It will be a lot of fun- even if you are attending church virtually, come by at 11am outside for the festivities.
Blessings to you, and I will see you in church,
Jesse+
