Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday begins the forty-day journey of Lent between Ash Wednesday and Easter. It sets one on a time of self-examination and repentance, to wait upon and prepare for the renewal given by God’s Spirit in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Ash Wednesday service includes the invitation for each person to come forward to have the sign of the cross marked on their forehead. We are reminded that we, like the palms that have been burned to make the ashes, will someday turn to dust. As your forehead is marked with ashes, you will hear these words from Genesis 3:19 — “Remember you are dust and to dust you will return.”

St. Michael’s offers the following opportunities for receiving ashes:

6:30 – 8:30 a.m. Ashes-to-Go at the Barrington Train Station

12:00 p.m. Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at St. Michael's

6:30 p.m. Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at St. Michael's

Children’s Program in Chapel; drop off beginning at 6:15pm. For ages 3 and up.

Childcare for under 3 years old will be provided.
