Advent Festival of Lessons & Music

Sunday, December 11 at 5:00 p.m.

This traditional Anglican service weaves together readings, hymns and choir music as it tells the story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus.  We especially welcome all guests this evening.  A festive reception follows the service.

The Advent Festival of Lessons and Music will be held on Sunday, December 11 at the church at 5:00 p.m.  Come and join in this celebration Advent, in which we prepare for the birth of the Lord by hearing the story of the prophecies of the Messiah in readings and music.

Why the name change, you ask?  The Book of Occasional Services uses this name, to differentiate this form of worship during Advent from Lessons and Carols, which is specific to Christmas Eve.  The larger culture we live in doesn’t recognize Advent, so this is also a way of keeping the focus of the liturgical year in the minds of Christians.

Come and join in this Advent celebration!

Sing the songs glorifying the Creator of the world.

Hear the story of the creation of humankind and their fall into sin.

Listen to the ancient words from the Book of Isaiah foretelling the coming of Immanuel.

Rejoice with others as we sing “Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers.”

Sing “my soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord” after the Annunciation reading from the Gospel of Luke!
